This was SUCH a fun conversation to have.

When I heard about Tommy Baker and his 1% rule I knew I had to have him on the show. If you’ve followed me for any length of time you’ll know that I believe the work we do on ourselves is booth neverending and imperative to build the business and life we desire.

And because it’s never ending, it can feel totally overwhelming. Which is why I love the idea of the 1% - creating a little progress each and every day.

We talk about the idea of creating momentum in life and choosing progress every single day! The way we do the little things every day gives us the opportunity to be ready for when the big things come up - so that we know what we are doing.

Similar to how health professionals advise clients to fill their plates with vegetables and other healthy choices so that there is no room left for the less healthy options, Tommy talks about filling your day and life with high priority items connected directly to your vision and you’ll find that you don’t have much space for lower quality or toxic items in your day. This episode will help you to find clarity, more discipline, get laser focused, and continue to make progress every single day.

“On the other side of fear is freedom.”

We touch on creating clarity, expectations, and reality. Everybody wants to discover their life purpose today - but that’s not how it works. Clarity is an evolution - depending on where we are on our journey we have different vantage points and different perspectives. Let’s get you started on your first iteration of clarity and started on the evolution process. Clarity comes from the doing, you need to actually work at clarity in order to find it!

3 C’s of the 1%

  1. Clarity
  2. Consistency
  3. Certainty

One thing that I always find is the idea of expectation vs reality is often very skewed. People have a Level 10 Expectation but only with Level 2 Commitments - which creates quite the gap in our minds. We either have to lower our expectations or we find a way to raise our commitments. Ideally you want to find an even space and alignment between those two items.

One of the best things you can do for yourself, right now and today - is to release the pressure you put on yourself.  You won’t get a grand slam on your first at bat, that is just the reality of the situation. Instead, place your self esteem around what you can control and focus on the 1% that you can do today and tomorrow. Do whatever you can to fall in love with the process, not just the results. Things will get so much easier when you make a mindset shift from - “that was a failure” to “I just did this, it was great, and this is how I can improve it.” You’ve got to think, most people are on the sidelines, so if you took an action and got yourself in the game - then you’ve already won!

“The first iteration of your goal - is never your end result.” - Tommy Baker
